Mr. Abrams Gets To Travel!
One of my favorite aspects of my job is that I get to split my time between Hingham High School and the four elementary schools. Getting to teach Fifth Grade Chorus is what attracted me to this position in the first place. I simply couldn't believe there was an opportunity in Hingham for a choral director to work with both the high school students and the fifth grade. It was almost too good to be true.
It was a fifth grade chorus who first helped me realize that it was teaching that makes me the happiest; not writing, recording or performing music. That was at the Estabrook School in Lexington.

Fifth grade chorus 2014-15
Welcome to the Fifth Grade Chorus section of the Hingham Chorus website. Here you'll find helpful information over the course of the year such as concert dates, copies of any handouts that are meant to go home, information on T shirt orders and more.
The Fifth Grade Chorus in Hingham is designed to introduce students to the art of singing and the enjoyment it can provide. The repertoire is varied and will include music in the round, partner songs, folk songs, simple harmony and pop songs. In some cases, the students will be asked to suggest pieces which we may sing in class and/or for a concert. In the past, some of our strongest material has been suggested by students.
All-Town Concert
The All-Town chorus concert is a great opportunity for the students, families, teachers and administrators to see, hear and enjoy all levels of the choral program performing together, onstage, in this annual tradition. All Fifth Grade Chorus students will perform together (all four schools at once) a piece that each group will have been working on in class. The middle school chorus will also perform, as will the high school combined choirs. Finally, the culmination of the program is when all chorus students, 5th-12th grade, assemble onstage and perform together. I run this concert in conjunction with the middle school director, Christopher Landis.
The All-Town concert will be held on February 4, 2015 and is a required concert. The students should wear exactly what they wore for the December concerts: Our chorus T shirts and nice pants.
Spring Concerts
Each elementary school will hold a spring concert. These will be very similar in style and flow to the December concerts, except these will be held in the evenings instead of during the academic day. The schedule for the Spring Concerts is as follows:
SOUTH: Wednesday, May 20, 2015 @ 7pm in the South school cafeteria/auditorium
PRS: Tuesday, May 26, 2015 @ 7pm in the PRS cafeteria/auditorium
EAST: Wednesday, May 27 @ 7pm in the East School cafeteria/auditorium
FOSTER: Monday, June 1 @ 7pm in the Hingham MIDDLE SCHOOL auditorium
Chorus Buddies
I'm looking forward to trying something new this year. Each fifth grade chorus student will be assigned a chorus buddy from Hingham High School. The students will occasionally write notes back and forth to their buddies. The fifth graders can ask questions of their buddies about what it's like to sing at the high school level, and the high school students can respond by offering words of advice and fun stories about what's happening at the high school. The students will each be able to exchange words of encouragement when concerts near and will perhaps invite each other to attend performances. Finally, they'll get to meet each other at the All-Town concert in February.
